Ambassadorial Scholars
2009-2010 3-Month Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarship
In times of conflict, world understanding and peace are more important than ever. Here in Eastern North Carolina we see the need for understanding and peace with the growing number of Hispanics in our area. The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International has a 3-Month Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarship Program to further world understanding and peace.

Rotary District 7720 here in Eastern North Carolina has the opportunity to award several of these 3-month Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships. This 3-month scholarship program involves an immersion as well as intensive language study at a Rotary International School for Spanish language training. These potential scholar applicants, if selected, would be eligible to begin their 90 days of language training beginning no earlier than July 1, 2009 and ending June
30, 2010.

The requirements are that the applicant must be older than 21 years, cannot be a Rotarian or the son or daughter of a Rotarian, and must have the equivalent of one-year college level Spanish training. For more information regarding the Ambassadorial Scholarship you can go to www.rotary.org/en/AboutUs/SiteTools/Search/Pages/ridefault.aspx?k=Cultural%20Ambassadorial%20Scholarship%20Application.

These scholarships are ideal for nurses, police officers, teachers, public health employees, social workers, or any person working with the public, etc. who would benefit from learning the Spanish language and bring these skills to their jobs to benefit the people of Eastern North Carolina.

The Ambassadorial Scholarships program supports the mission of The Rotary Foundation to further international understanding and world peace by:
  • Increasing awareness of and respect for cultural differences by sending ambassadors of goodwill to study in another country
  • Instilling in scholars the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self through active participation in Rotary service projects
  • Encouraging scholars to dedicate their personal and professional lives to improving the quality of life for the people of their home communities and countries
  • Developing leaders who can address the humanitarian needs of the world community
  • Impacting all areas of the world through a balanced geographical distribution of scholars
  • Fostering a lifelong association between Rotary and its scholars

During the study period, scholars are expected to be outstanding ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country through appearances before Rotary clubs and districts, schools, civic organizations, and other forums. After study has been completed, scholars share their experiences with the people of their home countries and with the Rotarians who sponsored their scholarships. For more information on the Ambassadorial Scholarship program, please download the pdf brochure here.
